Upcoming Service Learning Trips
Update on 10 March 2020:
On 6 Mar 2020, the HKSAR Government Department of Health issued advice for the public to consider delaying all non-essential travel outside of Hong Kong. In response to the rapidly evolving global health situation surrounding COVID-19 and holding the health, safety and best interests of our students as our highest priority, the University decided to suspend all outbound student activities to take place outside of Hong Kong during the Summer Term. Hence, all Service Learning Trips organized / coordinated by HKUST Connect this Summer Term will be suspended. If you have any questions, please contact us.
In the coming summer, you will have the opportunity to organize activities for underprivileged children, explore local cultures in Cambodia or underprivileged and refugees affected by war in Croatia, or contribute to community projects in an Indonesian village. Through engaging in service trips, you will be able to broaden your horizons, enrich your university life, and identify your responsibilities as a global citizen. You can make real impact to the local community, and gain authentic cultural experiences that you can't get from a traditional classroom.
You are expected to attend all pre-trip workshops and spare time in sub-team meetings to conduct a research and prepare service plans for the trip throughout the semester. During the trip, you can also explore many dimensions of the culture and history of the service location.
You may apply for the Connect Overseas Learning Experience Sponsorship Scheme (OLESS) to receive subsidy to cover part of the program fee. Additional consideration will be given to those with financial need. Find out more about the scheme here.
