Huangshan Service Learning Trip is a 3-year sustainable service program focusing on supporting primary education in village schools in Huangshan, Anhui Province in Mainland China. In June, we are going to revisit Huangshan and continue our work in the local primary school. Highlights of the trip in 2011 can be found here.

After this 7-day trip, you will:
1. Gain first-hand teaching experience in basic science and other interesting workshops for local primary school students
2. Have a deeper understanding of the lives of impoverished population in rural China through family visits
3. Enjoy the beauty of Huangshan city and explore local culture

    Tentative Program Itinerary

    HK 25 March 1st pre-trip workshop
    31 March 2nd pre-trip workshop
    21 or 22 April HKUST Service Learning Day event (exclusive for Huangshan trip participants)
    late March - April Group preparation tasks
    3 May 3rd pre-trip workshop
    CN 27 May Travel to Huangshan
    28-30 May, 1 June Teaching and activities with local students; Family visits
    31 May Cultural exploration
    2 June Return to Hong Kong
    Fee HK$4,900 (Participants may apply for subsidy up to 50% of the program fee from the Pilot Mainland Experience Scheme. Details will be announced soon by SFAO.)
  • Successful applicants are required to settle the full payment by 23 March

    Program fee includes:
  • Round trip air ticket to Hangzhou
  • Meals, accommodation (shared room), and program related transportation in Huangshan
  • Program materials
  • Part of expenditure for cultural exploration
  • Travel insurance
  • Program fee does NOT include:
  • Participant’s personal expenses including meals, transportation, sightseeing and other expenses out of the official program
  • Fee for travel document/visa application

    Note
    To ensure the quality of the service activities and a positive team experience, the organizer reserves the right to terminate the participation for any student who fail to attend at least 80% (in contact hours) of the required pre-trip activities, and the program fee will not be refunded.
